Beyond What’s Now
Community co-learning experiences to explore, decode and re-imagine futures beyond hopelessness
Making sense of today’s world is hard. Keeping hope alive and organize meaningful actions is even harder. And we’re definitely not supposed to do this alone.
In a system that pushes us to navigate the world alone, to stay increasingly polarized, to compete with each other, and bypass global complexities, the act of coming together is an act of resistance.
Beyond What’s Now is a community experience designed to bring us together, to learn together, to explore the historical paths and mechanics that have been leading to where the world is today, to decode the nonsense and to craft new meanings – through collective exchange, discussions and aspirational (brave) re-imagination practices.
Re-Igniting Hope in Community
Beyond What’s Now is an invitation to come together and re-imagine futures beyond what the world looks like today.
About Beyond What’s Now
BWN is not a teaching space. It’s not a workshop. It’s not a book club.
It’s a community experience where we practice collective learning as a form of activism.
We meet to read extracts or chapters of books that write about topics such as activism, gender, class, race, war, sexuality, human rights, etc. and we use the time together to reflect, discuss and exchange perspectives.
There isn’t a fixed curriculum and the space is open for contribution and co-creation of the “agenda”. It’s a grassroots, informal moment of questioning the status quo through collective learning, exploration, sense-making, imagination and creativity.
The shortlisting of readings and books strives to prioritize authors from diverse backgrounds, and amplify the perspectives, experiences and voices of historically marginalized and communities affected by systemic oppression.
Beyond What’s Now is open for reading recommendations, feedback on shortlisted readings and support on improving the diversity of reading material!
This is for anyone who wants to do something.
It’s for curious people who want to broaden their understanding of today’s world.
It’s for people who are open to challenge their perspective and to be challenged by new, different ones.
It’s for people who genuinely want to learn more, know more, and decode what’s going on in the world today.
It’s for people who want to do something, but they want to do it in an informed way.
It’s for people who want to act consciously, but don’t quite know where to get started.
It’s for people who don’t want to do this alone, they struggle to make the time, they have financial constraints and can’t access reading material.
It’s for people who want to feel less alone in the desire of resisting the status quo and want to be surrounded by people who, like them, are willing to do something.
